With the innovation of technology, growing up with computers, video games, and more at their disposal, kids are living in much more sedentary environments than ever before.  I remember going downtown when I was younger and seeing kids playing in their yards, playing road hockey in the streets, riding their bikes etc... Those days are few and far between now.  Rarely do kids get to participate in unstructured, unscheduled activities anymore.  Life is go-go-go, even for children.

This section is dedicated to kids and parents to help learn more about the human body, activity, fun stuff and being an all around healthy human being.

Did you know? ...

*Play is good for you!  You can build strength, endurance, speed, agility and a healthy body just by playing and having fun.

*Your body has over 600 muscles that help you move and survive.  It's very important to take good care of those muscles so your body can stay healthy and strong.

*Daily physical activity and exercise are two different things.  Exercise is something you would do at a gym. Pushups, squats, core work etc... Physical activity is anything that requires movement (and hopefully that you enjoy).  Swimming, biking, playing hide and go seek, climbing on the jungle gym etc... are all examples of physical activity.  30min per day of fun like that is not too bad at all is it!?

*Your heart pumps everyday, all day.  It never can rest. It never can take a break.  It has the hardest job possible. When you stay active and eat healthy, you allow your heart to grow strong and keep working well.

*Vegetables are your power food! The body gets so much from veggies it's incredible.  There are tons of ways to eat them too. Try a variety of veggies, try to cook them in different ways and include them in things like pastas, omelets etc... to allow your body to get enough in each day.

*70% of your body is made up of water.  That's over half of your body - made up of water!!  This is way it's so important we drink water each day.  "Candy drinks" (as I call them) like pop, fruit juice, Gatorade etc…won't help.  Every so often these are ok (as a treat), but your body needs what makes it work best…water.
